Workshop: You are elsewhere with your eyes

"Church of Performance" presents their latest workshop program: An introduction to devise ritualistic performances for performers and non-performers who want to develop new skills and gain deeper understandings of the creative process.

This project addresses whether global, social, and/or cultural crises are being ignored by moral demarcation, and what it means to look closely. Over the course of a workshop session, the biblical story of Lot in the Old Testament will be explored together with the participants, and the results publicly performed.

Lot had to flee when "the Lord rained burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah" because there were supposedly no "righteous people" there. Lot's wife looked back and turned into a column of salt. We will examine how the denial of war and terrorism is viewed as a "just" virtue as a survival instinct, or as a denial of responsibility (such as the denial of the Holocaust).

Through discussion, reflection and embodiment, h*story is reinterpreted and the significance of social values ​​through Christian imprint is put to the test. Playfully, we revert to the rich symbolism and iconography of religious art, which we will reconfigure in search of new meanings in an attempt to reveal plural, unfixed identities that slowly emerge in time and space.

During the workshop, participants enjoy an introduction to Live Art, and will be working across and beyond shapes, contexts, and spaces to open up new artistic models, new languages ​​to represent ideas and identities and new intervention strategies. We interpret possible meanings of the biblical story and test the context in various forms. In addition we will get to know examples of Live Art artists, create personal, cultural and historical relationships through physical embodiment. Please wear comfortable clothing that does not restrict us.

The workshop and the performance offer an opportunity to experience one's own creation from start to finish. Working with simple and immediate means  equips the participant with the ability to send certain semiotic signals to the viewer. Through the performance, the participants will have a new experience, which, through individual interpretation, will connect their personal feelings with the public.

To attend the workshop you can choose between session 1, which will be held on Tuesday 18.06.19 and Wednesday 19.06.19 from 6pm to 9pm or session 2, which will be held on Saturday 22.06.19 from 11am to 5pm. Both sessions take place in the White Room of the BRUX Freies Theater Innsbruck.

The time and space for the final performance will be negotiated during the workshop depending on scope and availability. Interested participants (+18) can book a place by June 1st. The workshop is free but spaces are limited.

Workshop: Du bist mit den Augen woanders

„Church of Performance“ präsentiert ihr neuestes Workshop-Programm: Eine Einführung in die Gestaltung ritualistischer Performances für Performer*innen und Nicht-Performer*innen, die neue Fähigkeiten entwickeln und den Entstehungsprozess dieser einzigartigen Form von Grund auf verstehen wollen.
Das Projekt befasst sich mit der Frage, ob und inwiefern aktuelle Krisen durch moralische Abgrenzung ignoriert werden und was es bedeutet, genau hinzuschauen. In Form eines Workshops wird gemeinsam mit den Teilnehmer*innen die biblische Geschichte von Lot im Alten Testament erforscht und die Ergebnisse anschließend öffentlich gezeigt.
Lot musste fliehen, als „der Herr brennenden Schwefel auf Sodom und Gomorra regnen ließ“, weil es angeblich in Sodom und Gomorra keine „rechtschaffenen Menschen“ gab. Lots Frau blickte zurück und verwandelte sich in eine Salzsäule. Es wird untersucht, auf welche Weise die Leugnung von Krieg und Terror als „gerechte“ Tugend, als Überlebensinstinkt oder als Ablehnung von Verantwortung (wie die Leugnung vom Holocaust) angesehen wird.
Durch Diskussion, Reflexion und Verkörperung wird die Geschichte neu ausgelegt und die Bedeutung sozialer Wertvorstellungen durch christliche Prägung auf die Probe gestellt. Wir greifen spielerisch auf die reiche Symbolik und Ikonografie religiöser Kunst zurück, die neu konfiguriert wird und neue Bedeutung gewinnt, indem sie plurale und nicht fixierte Identitäten enthüllt, die langsam in Zeit und Raum entstehen und sich fließend entwickeln.
Während des Workshops genießen die Teilnehmer*innen eine Einführung in die Kunst der Live-Art, das heisst, wir arbeiten über Formen, Kontexte und Räume hinweg, um neue künstlerische Modelle, neue Sprachen für die Repräsentation von Ideen und Identitäten und neue Interventionsstrategien zu Eröffnen. Wir interpretieren mögliche Bedeutungen der biblischen Geschichte, und erproben ihren Kontext in verschiedenen Formen. Dazu werden wir Beispiele von Live-Art Künstlern kennenlernen, persönliche, kulturelle und historische Beziehungen schaffen, und das Ganze körperlich ausprobieren. Deshalb brauchen wir bequeme Kleidung, die uns nicht einengt.
Der Workshop und die Aufführung bieten die Möglichkeit, eine eigene Kreation von Anfang bis Ende zu Erfahren. Die Arbeit mit simplen und unmittelbaren Mitteln bietet die Möglichkeit, den_die Teilnehmer*in mit der Fähigkeit auszustatten bestimmte semiotische Signale an den_die Zuschauer*in zu senden. Durch die Performance werden die Teilnehmer*innen eine neue Erfahrung machen, bei der sie mit ihren persönlichen Gefühlen durch die individuelle Interpretation mit der Öffentlichkeit in Verbindung treten werden.
Die Teilnehmer können zwischen zwei Workshop-Terminen wählen. Der Erste findet am Dienstag dem 18.06.19 und Mittwoch 19.06.19 von 18 bis 21 Uhr statt, der Zweite am Samstag, dem 22.06.19 von 11 bis 17 Uhr. Beide Workshops finden im weißen Raum des BRUX Freies Theater Innsbruck statt.
Ort und Zeitpunkt der finalen Aufführung wird während des Workshops, abhängig von Format und Verfügbarkeit, ausgemacht. Interessierte (+18) werden gebeten sich bis 1. Juni anzumelden. Die Teilnahme ist kostenlos, jedoch ist die Anzahl auf 14 Plätze begrenzt.
